Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has dismissed suggestions that his side are willing to sign Australian forward Harry Kewell on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old is without a club at the moment after his contract with Melbourne Victory came to an end, and was recently seen at Stoke's training ground.

"Harry turned up and I think there were crossed wires with his agent and with ourselves," explained Pulis.

"We thought he wanted to have a place to train and work, and we were more than obliged to look after him.

"I think Harry thought there was something more concrete at the end of it. It was crossed wires but we have sorted that out."

However, Pulis is keen to sign more players before the end of the summer transfer window.

"There are loads of stuff we are trying to do next week," he said. "We will do our business as we normally do our business, with the players first and foremost and then we will let the press know afterwards."

Stoke are back in Premier League action on Sunday when they host Arsenal at the Britannia Stadium.
