Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet has confirmed that the club are waiting on results regarding the extent of Patrick van Aanholt's shoulder injury.
The defender was stretchered off in the first half of the Black Cats' 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday evening.
The 24-year-old has travelled back to the North-East club's base with his teammates after having some treatment in hospital.
"Patrick has a dislocated shoulder so we just need to wait and see the damage, really," Poyet told the club's official website.
"It is back in position and we are looking to check it in the next couple of days and then from there we will give information about how long it will take."
The win at Palace was Sunderland's second victory of the Premier League season.
