Captain John O'Shea has conceded that his Sunderland team are "terribly disappointed" not to have won the League Cup this afternoon.
The Black Cats took an early lead at Wembley against Manchester City through Fabio Borini, but second-half strikes from Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas secured the trophy for Manuel Pellegrini's men.
Reflecting on the defeat, O'Shea told Sky Sports News: "We're terribly disappointed. We started the game exactly how we wanted to. We counter-attacked great, scored a fantastic goal.
"They've scored a great goal to get back into it. He stuck it in the top corner from 30 yards out and we lost a bit of organisation for a few minutes and it cost us the second goal."
Next up for the Black Cats is a clash against fellow Premier League outfit Hull City in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
