Asamoah Gyan has apologised for his role in Ghana's Africa Cup of Nations exit.
The Sunderland striker, who is currently on loan at Al-Ain, failed to score from the penalty spot during his country's 1-0 semi-final defeat to eventual champions Zambia.
The 26-year-old also missed from 12 yards in the World Cup 2010 shootout against Uruguay, where a successful conversion would have led to Ghana's progression to the semi-finals.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Gyan said: "I'd like to apologise to the fans. It's been very difficult for me. I'd never miss a penalty on purpose.
"It's now two of the biggest penalties in my country's history and it's difficult to take.
"I've been unlucky. We all miss them. Fans should know it's not easy. [Didier] Drogba missed in the final."
Ghana were beaten 2-0 by Mali in the third-place play-off.
