Sunderland player Jack Rodwell is reportedly facing a 40% cut in his wages from next season.
The 27-year-old is currently on £73,000 a week at the Stadium of Light, but this is set to reduce to £44,000 as his side will not gain immediate promotion from the Championship, according to Sky Sports News.
The midfielder has not featured for Sunderland since September, having made just two appearances for Black Cats boss Chris Coleman all season.
Rodwell reportedly turned away moves abroad in the January transfer window, with Sunderland willing to release him on a free.
The Everton academy graduate is currently training away from the Sunderland first-team, as Coleman is unhappy with his fitness.
