Sunderland winger Adam Johnson has admitted that he is pleased with the club's season after they avoided relegation from the Premier League.
The Black Cats looked destined for the Championship last month, but a run of four straight wins moved them to safety.
Johnson also feels that reaching the Capital One Cup final was a bright spot in a campaign that looked doomed in September following the brief tenure of Paolo Di Canio.
He told the club's official website: "Overall I think it has been a good season for us, going to Wembley and finishing 14th.
"I think if you would have said at the start of the season that were going to do that, it would not have been too bad."
Gus Poyet's side fell to a 3-1 defeat to Swansea City on the final day of the season.
