Sunderland midfielder Ola Toivonen has conceded that his side's missed chances cost them a positive result against Arsenal in their Premier League clash.
The Black Cats lost 3-1 to Arsene Wenger's men at the Emirates Stadium, but were made to rue several missed opportunities as Fabio Borini, Steven Fletcher and Patrick van Aanholt all failed to find the net.
Toivonen told the club's official website: "I think we deserved a better outcome from the game but if you don't score against Arsenal and take one of your chances then you aren't going to end up with three points.
"We had some good opportunities with Fabio at the beginning of the game. We were solid defensively and we worked together, we got the goal and we had some big opportunities in the second half to make it 2-1.
"If you make mistakes against Arsenal then they are going to score and they did in the first half but overall we should be happy with the performance but the result is not very helpful."
Sunderland dropped back into the relegation zone following their loss to the Gunners.
