Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has declared that he was delighted with the desire and energy of his side against West Ham United this afternoon.
The Mackems secured a comfortable 3-0 home victory thanks to goals from Sebastian Larsson, Adam Johnson and James McLean.
O'Neill believes that the Black Cats wanted to win from the first whistle and were settled down by a superb strike from Larsson.
He told Sky Sports News: "We were brilliant from start to finish. It was very important for us today.
"We were energised after having a couple days off after the Bolton game. We put West Ham on the back foot from the beginning, and a great goal from Seb settled us down."
A third win in four home games has moved Sunderland six points clear of the relegation zone in 14th place.
