David Pleat believes that Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill could become the next England manager.
The Irishman has been linked with the post after a successful start to his reign at the Stadium of Light.
"I'm sure he will be considered for it, he's got Brian Clough genes," Pleat told BBC Sport.
"I don't know what his recipe is but he's got the knack. Everyone plays for a new manager and he's learnt so well but he's a very good leader of people."
Sunderland travel to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
