Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has said that he is hopeful that Fabio Borini will be able to go back home with the rest of his players tonight.
The striker was taken to hospital after falling ill during the Black Cats' Premier League match at Cardiff City that ended in a 2-2 draw.
The 22-year-old, who was substituted at half time, was conscious when he left the Cardiff City Stadium and will assessed further at the hospital.
"He is in hospital," Poyet told Sky Sports News. "Fabio was sick before the game and at half time it became impossible for him [to carry on].
"We took him to hospital, so let's hope it's nothing and he can go back on the plane to the north."
Sunderland are currently at the bottom of the table with 14 points from 19 matches.
