Sunderland have announced that they are to appeal the red card given to defender Wes Brown in their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Brown was dismissed as referee Roger East adjudged him to have fouled Radamel Falcao in the box for a second-half penalty, which was converted by Wayne Rooney.
However, John O'Shea claimed that he was the one that brought Falcao down, which replays proved to be correct, leading to the appeal from Gus Poyet's side.
A statement on the club's official website said: "SAFC has confirmed that it will appeal the red card given to Wes Brown in yesterday's Barclays Premier League game against Manchester United at Old Trafford."
Sunderland face relegation rivals Hull City in their Premier League clash on Tuesday.
