Sunderland winger Connor Wickham has urged his teammates to build on their derby win during the remainder of the season.
The Black Cats gave their Premier League survival hopes a boost on Sunday thanks to a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at the Stadium of Light.
Wickham now hopes that Sunderland can pull further away from the drop zone in the coming weeks after getting one over on their local rivals.
"It's massive for the club, the fans and for us," he told Sunderland's official website. "We can take it into the next remaining games.
"I wouldn't say we dominated Newcastle because we had some sloppy places throughout the game, but that's how we're going to have to grind out results. Whether we win - pretty football or ugly football - we'll take three points."
Sunderland continue their fight for survival on Saturday when they host in-form Crystal Palace.
