Sunderland striker Connor Wickham believes that his side deserved to stay in the Premier League following their excellent run of form at the end of the season.
The Black Cats have won their last four games to secure their Premier League status after being seven-points adrift and in 20th place just four weeks ago.
Wickham told the club's official website: "It was a massive relief with the way we did it and the games we had coming up five weeks ago. We've worked hard in training and in games and got the results we needed.
"Having been seven points adrift at one point we can now target 12th in the league. It's something major. We've beaten some of the top teams and I think we deserve to stay up. It would be great to round the season off with a goal."
Gus Poyet's side face Swansea City on the final day of the season later today.
