Chris Coleman 'has no problem with wage cut next season'

Sunderland boss Chris Coleman is willing to take a pay cut next season, following the club's relegation to League One.

Chris Coleman has revealed that he would take a pay cut, if necessary, following Sunderland's relegation to League One.

Sunderland were relegated for a second successive season last weekend, following a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Burton Albion.

The Black Cats boss has no clause relating to reduced pay in his contract, but financial struggles could force Coleman to be paid less from next season.

"There's nothing in my contract, but I'll tell you now, I have absolutely no problem with having a different contract," Coleman told reporters.

"That's not the problem for me, the problem is what the plan is for the team, the signings. I'd do it if someone wanted to look at the contract. I signed a two-and-a-half year contract. The plan was stay up, get up and then stay up again, if that makes sense. Everything was geared towards the Premier League – that's where we were looking.

"But whoever is the owner, if we have to cut our cloth and there are sacrifices to be made to help us go in a certain way, then I'll do that. I haven't got a problem with that."

Sunderland are the first team to be relegated from the Championship this season.
