Sunderland captain John O'Shea will miss his side's Premier League clash with Everton due to a rib injury.
The 34-year-old sustained the problem in the Black Cats' 2-1 victory over Southampton last week, which forced him from the field in the first half.
O'Shea has failed to recover from the problem and will not play against the Toffees, but will travel with his teammates to Goodison Park. Meanwhile, Jack Rodwell will also miss the match due to a hamstring injury.
Boss Dick Advocaat told the club's official website: "John will travel with the squad as he is captain, and will have a part to play in the dressing room."
Sunderland are 18th in the Premier League going into their match against Everton, one point adrift of safety.
