Sunderland striker Connor Wickham has admitted that his side's win over Burnley at the Stadium of Light was a "long time coming".
Goals from Wickham and Jermain Defoe fired Gus Poyet's side to their first Premier League home victory since October and put distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
Wickham told the club's official website: "It has been a long time coming, especially scoring, so it was a good day for me and the team.
"Results also went our way today so hopefully it will kick us on to achieve better things. The lift this win has given us is massive and you can see it on the pitch and in the dressing room.
"We felt comfortable and everything clicked into place to allow us to perform and get the three points."
Sunderland are 14th in the Premier League table following their win over the Clarets, four points clear of the drop zone.
