Sunderland are reportedly prepared to offer free agent James McFadden a contract at the Stadium of Light.
The 29-year-old has been without a club since being released from Everton at the end of last season.
It is believed that the winger is close to agreeing a short-term deal with the Black Cats after being invited to train with the team, according to the Daily Star.
Recent reports claimed that McFadden had rejected the chance to return to former club Motherwell as he targets a stay in the Premier League.
