Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has revealed that he will speak with free agent James McFadden over possibly signing for the Black Cats this week.
The 29-year-old, who was released by Everton at the end of last season, has been expected to join the Premier League side on a short-term deal.
"James has trained with us and I think he's done well," said O'Neill. "I'll have a proper word with him this week."
McFadden also trained with his former club Motherwell, where he started his career.
