Sunderland are reportedly hopeful that Connor Wickham will sign a new deal with the Black Cats.
The 21-year-old, who has been strongly linked with a move to West Ham United in the summer, scored five times towards the end of last season as the Black Cats secured their stay in the Premier League.
The forward's contract is due to expire at the end of this season and as it stands, talks over a new deal at the Stadium of Light have stalled.
However, a club source has reportedly told Goal.com: "Gus [Poyet] has big belief in Connor and we are all hoping that will result in him signing."
Wickham is yet to find the back of the net in the league this season.
