Sunderland's John Egan has joined Southend United on a one-month loan deal.
The defender will go straight into the squad for the League Two match against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
"John is the type of defender I like to have in my side and I'm sure he'll fit straight in," Southend boss Phil Brown told the club's official website.
"He's a no-nonsense type of defender but at the same time he can get the ball down and play out from the back."
Egan, 21, has also had loan spells with Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and Bradford City.
