Sunderland have reportedly included Luis Pedro Cavanda on a list of possible targets as Gus Poyet looks to add defensive options to his squad.
Poyet is keen to sign Marcos Alonso, who spent last season on loan at the club, on a permanent basis, but they are reported to have failed to agree personal terms with the Fiorentina defender.
According to the Daily Mail, Lazio's Cavanda has been considered as a possible alternative to Alonso due to his ability to play on the left and right side of defence.
The Black Cats have already signed a full-back this summer, with Patrick van Aanholt moving to the Stadium of Light from Chelsea last week.
