Leon Britton says that he will repay the faith shown by Swansea City after signing a contract extension.

Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton has insisted that he will repay the club's faith after he was offered a contract extension.

The 31-year-old, who rejoined the Swans three years ago, is now tied to the club until 2017.

Britton is hoping to add to his 461 appearances next season under manager Garry Monk, who was given the permanent coaching role following Michael Laudrup's exit in February.

"To stay on at the club for an extra year on top of my current contract is something that I am delighted to do," Britton told the club's official website.

"From a personal point of view, the contract talks these days are so easy. It was done within a day or two with no complications. I just wanted to get it done and signed and the club were happy to get it sorted quickly too.

"I'm happy the club still feels I'm able to compete and do well at this level at my age. It's a big thing for them to have given me this extension and I want to repay the faith the board and manager has shown in me."

Britton's first stint at Swansea came back in 2003, when he joined from West Ham United for seven years before moving on to Sheffield United.
