Paul Clement: 'No regrets over Jack Cork to Burnley sale'

Paul Clement says that he stands by his decision to offload England international Jack Cork in the summer, as he prepares his Swansea City side for their trip to Burnley.

Swansea City manager Paul Clement has insisted that he is "very pleased" for Jack Cork following his England call-up and does not regret selling the midfielder to Burnley.

The Clarets nabbed the 28-year-old from their Premier League rivals in July for a fee of around £10m, handing him a four-year deal at Turf Moor.

Cork has pushed on in his new surroundings and was rewarded with a maiden senior cap for England against Germany last week, being introduced for the final four minutes of the Wembley stalemate.

Ahead of Saturday afternoon's trip to Lancashire, however, Clement stands by his decision to offload the ex-Chelsea and Southampton ace.

"Jack went with our best wishes. He was a very good professional here," he told BBC Sport. "Football is strange. You never know what's round the corner. I'm very pleased for him. I've never been the kind of person when a player moves on I don't want him to do well.

"It's such a short career, you can't wish that on anybody. It was a situation that came about that another club put a very good financial offer in. We looked at his current situation in terms of contract and age and the business that was done when we bought him.

"And all those factors weighed in to probably the right decision to move him on. We can't look back now and say we wish he was still here. There's no point. You've just got to focus on moving forward with the players you've got."

Cork, who joined the Swans from Southampton in 2015, has started all 11 of Burnley's top-flight games this term.
