Huw Jenkins: 'Sections of media want Swansea City to fail'

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins criticises what he perceives as adverse media coverage of the club in recent weeks.

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has claimed that some sections of the media are "sitting waiting" for the club to fail in the Premier League.

The Welsh side have won just one of their last eight Premier League matches, a run of poor form which has seen them slip to 14th in the table and resulted in increased speculation over manager Garry Monk's future.

However, Jenkins has criticised the media for what he perceives as some hostile treatment of the club, and he warned people connected with the club to "keep their own counsel" to prevent coverage getting even worse.

Writing in his matchday programme notes, Jenkins said: "Looking back over the last few weeks, there seems to have been endless coverage in the media having a little pop at things not being quite right within Swansea City.

"I am afraid that after our rise over recent years and our continued involvement in the Premier League, I am convinced that there are plenty of people sitting waiting to have their say against us if our performance levels start to drop. We have to accept that this will never change while we take part in the Premier League.

"With many of the current media articles trying to expose weaknesses and instability within our football club, it is vital that everyone connected to the club keeps their own counsel in order to stop adding fuel to a fire ready to ignite at any time.

"We have battled against all the odds over the last 12 years or so and everyone connected to Swansea City should never be surprised how quickly people will turn against you and take pleasure in saying: 'I told you so. I knew it could never last.'"

Swansea host Bournemouth at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.
