Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has strenuously denied claims that he intentionally elbowed Emre Can in last night's 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.
Shelvey's elbow appeared to make contact with Can's face but the former Liverpool man escaped punishment from referee Andre Marriner.
The 22-year-old has now taken to Twitter to deny suggestions that there was malice involved.
He wrote: "Just wanna say didn't intentionally elbow emre can was just trying to get my arm across to get round him and it's come off as I'm trying to hurt another play and I can assure you that , that isn't the case. And I had apologised to emre can for catching him."
Alberto Moreno had fired the hosts into a 1-0 lead at the break, before a freak second goal from Adam Lallana doubled the advantage on 51 minutes.
Gylfi Sigurdsson reduced the arrears moments later, before a Shelvey own goal and another from Lallana capped a resounding win for the Merseysiders.
