Garry Monk "very confident" in squad strength after Hull City victory

Garry Monk explains his decision to make seven changes to Swansea's starting lineup against Hull City and feels that they were justified after a 1-0 victory.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk says that he will not hesitate in making more changes to his starting lineup in the coming weeks following today's 1-0 victory over Hull City.

The Swans went into the contest on the back of two straight defeats in the Premier League, which may have been behind Monk's decision to make seven changes to his side for the trip to the KC Stadium.

Wilfried Bony was among those left out, with Bafetimbi Gomis coming in, while Gylfi Sigurdsson, Leon Britton and Jefferson Montero were also given a breather.

"I knew making those changes that people would question it but I was very confident in the group," the 35-year-old told reporters. "We have such a busy period coming up and, if you play the same 11 players in that period, that's suicide for me.

"We haven't got the biggest squad but we have got quality. We have a way of working where everyone understands what their roles are so I had no problem putting different players in those positions. I trust them and I think that trust was shown in the game.

"Some of them haven't had a hell of a lot of game time but all credit to them, they dug in and got the result which is what it's all about."

Next up for Swansea is the visit of Aston Villa to the Liberty Stadium on Boxing Day.
