Swansea City ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over a lacklustre Newcastle United side in Saturday's Premier League clash at the Liberty Stadium.

Bafetimbi Gomis opened the scoring after eight minutes after he collected Jonjo Shelvey's defence-splitting pass before rounding Tim Krul and firing into the open net.

Daryl Janmaat was dismissed for two bookable offences on Jefferson Montero just before the break, and the game was all but over in the 52nd minute as the Ecuadorian's cross was nodded home by Andre Ayew.

Goal

Lukasz Fabianski: Was alert and did well to come off his line and collect a number of crosses, though he hardly had a save to make. (7/10)

Defence

Kyle Naughton: Offered decent support on the overlap and did well to stifle Obertan. (7/10)

Federico Fernandez: Had little to do, but coped well with Newcastle's brief periods of pressure, including a second-half last-ditch tackle. (7/10)

Ashley Williams: Marshalled his defence great authority, stifling Cisse and limiting the visitors' chances, and also played some good passes out of the back and into attack. (7/10)

Neil Taylor: Wasn't tested particularly often and, with Montero marauding on the wing, didn't require much going up. (6/10)

Midfield

Jack Cork: Dropped deep and helped his defence out on numerous occasions, shadowing Wijnaldum excellently. (7/10)

Jonjo Shelvey: Brilliant early on, beaming with confidence on the ball, and helped open the scoring with a defence-splitting pass to Gomis, but grew irresponsible as the game went on. (7/10)

Gylfi Sigurdsson: Struck the underside of the bar with a ferocious strike just after the restart. Dominant in possession, decisive with his passing. (7/10)

Jefferson Montero: Didn't score but was unplayable in attack, proving a handful down the flank throughout with his pace and trickery. Also set up the second goal with a pinpoint cross. (9/10)

Attack

Andre Ayew: A wonderful move to the near post allowed him to smash a powerful header past Krul to double his side's lead. Work rate was tremendous. (8/10)

Bafetimbi Gomis: Well-timed run and composed finish put his side ahead inside 10 minutes, overall a handful in attack. (8/10)

Substitutes

Nathan Dyer: Didn't look comfortable. Moved well off the ball but was poor in possession. (6/10)

Leon Britton: Came on too late to make an impact beyond winding down the clock. (6/10)

Wayne Routledge: Offered fresh legs in attack but his impact was limited with the result already assured. (6/10)

Tim Krul: Not at fault for either goal, but didn't cover himself in glory with any outstanding saves either. Had his work cut out today. (6/10)

Daryl Janmaat: Was harangued by Montero throughout, and his cynical tackling and frustration culminated in a needless tug which led to his early dismissal. (3/10)

Chancel Mbemba: Showed his defensive prowess with a great tackle on Montero in the first half, but was forced to switch to the right for the second half and had a hard time thereafter. (5/10)

Fabricio Coloccini: Failed to track Gomis's run for Swansea's opener and then allowed Ayew to get in front of him and head home the second. (4/10)

Massadio Haidara: Defended the wing well, but needed to offer better support for Coloccini. (6/10)

Midfield

Vurnon Anita: Allowed Shelvey too much time and space to create. Largely ineffective. (5/10)

Jack Colback: Another ineffective player who allowed the opposition too much space. (5/10)

Moussa Sissoko: The most creative player for Newcastle, but was forced off at the break after picking up a knock. His impact was missed. (7/10)

Georginio Wijnaldum: Was forced to drop deep time and time again to regain possession before sending the ball forward for Obertan and Cisse, who hardly made themselves available. (6/10)

Attack

Gabriel Obertan: Showed flashes of pace and skill at times but needed a better end product. Saw little of the ball after his team went down to ten men. (6/10)

Papiss Cisse: Failed to make himself available in the centre and offered little in possession. A bad day at the office. (5/10)

Substitutes

Steven Taylor: Composed at the back, coming on at the break to play centre-half with Janmaat sent off. (7/10)

Rolando Aarons: Didn't seem willing to put in the required effort up front, and appeared to lack energy. (5/10)

Aleksandar Mitrovic: Was lucky not to get sent off after lashing out at Taylor minutes after coming on. The referee most likely gave him the benefit of the doubt. (5/10)
