Federico Fernandez notches a vital second-half equaliser to earn Swansea City an important 1-1 draw away at Leicester City in the Premier League.

Federico Fernandez's second-half header ensured that Swansea City secured a vital 1-1 draw against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League this afternoon.

In a contest that saw Claude Puel's charges dominate from the outset, the Foxes were made to pay for their continued wastefulness as the Swans fought back to cancel out a well-worked opener from Jamie Vardy.

Provided with the chance to win four games back to back at the King Power in all competitions, the Foxes started the contest brightly with both Kelechi Iheanacho and Vardy causing some early problems with their movement in the final third.

After a promising opening the home side soon made their dominance count, as Iheanacho took two Swansea defenders out of the game with some standout skill, before slipping Vardy in behind to notch his 12th league goal of the season with a simple finish.

Swansea went about their work with commendable energy but they were unable to muster much of note going forward, until Nathan Dyer came to life inside the box, only to be thwarted by a last-ditch slide from a retreating Wilfred Ndidi.

The Foxes continued to move the ball with invention and they almost made it 2-0, although Alfie Mawson made a terrific block just in front of goal to deny Iheanacho, who thought that he had scored from 10 yards out.

The frustration continued to grow for Puel's men, this time as Ndidi turned the ball into the Swansea net before noticing that the linesman had raised his flag for offside, leaving Swansea to head into the break just one down despite rarely being in the contest.

The visitors made the hosts pay for their profligacy soon after the break, when Fernandez was left to wander free of his marker from a Ki Sung-yueng corner and head home past a stranded Kasper Schmeichel.

Carvalhal's men sat deeper after drawing level in a bid to stifle the hosts, who were again left to rue another missed chance when Vardy cut a ball back for Fousseni Diabate, the new signing skewing his finish wide of the post.

Swansea's willingness to drop opened up more space for Ndidi in the closing stages and he did well to find Christian Fuchs on the left, but the full-back soon had his head in his hands when substitute Demarai Gray skied his cross into the stands from close range.

Puel's exasperation on the sidelines continued to be fuelled as the Foxes wasted yet another chance before the close, when Harry Maguire sent his diving header wide after breaking smartly to meet Marc Albrighton's free kick 10 minutes from time.

LEICESTER CITY: Schmeichel; Simpson (Okazaki '80), Maguire, Dragovic, Fuchs; Albrighton, Ndidi, Diabate, Silva (James '68); Iheanacho (Gray '68), Vardy

SWANSEA CITY: Fabianski; Olsson, Van der Hoorn, Mawson, Fernandez, Naughton; Ki, Fer (Carroll '36), Clucas; Dyer (Bony '71), Ayew (Routledge '90)
