Sports Mole previews Wednesday's League Two clash between Swindon Town and Stevenage, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

On Wednesday, eighth-placed Swindon Town will play host to Stevenage, who sit in a lowly 23rd position in League Two.

The home side will look to end a three-game winless league run, while the visitors enter the fixture winless in their last six matches in all competitions.

Match preview

After seeing their games against Exeter City and Walsall postponed due to coronavirus, Swindon will be relieved to finally return to action for the first time since December 11.

Ben Garner will hope that the enforced break helps Swindon get back on track after losing their last two league matches.

Those defeats have seen Swindon slip out of the playoffs on goal difference, and although they return to the County Ground on Wednesday, their home form this season offers little encouragement.

The Robins have collected 23 of their 33 points this season on their travels, while they have only won twice at home in League One this season.

Despite their troubles on home turf, Swindon will be confident of victory on Wednesday after winning four of their last five competitive meetings with Stevenage at the County Ground.

As for the visitors, they are languishing in the relegation zone and are winless in their last four league games.

After taking over as Boro boss at the end of November, Paul Tisdale is still looking for his first win in charge of Stevenage.

Like their opponents, the visitors will also be relieved to return to action after their Boxing Day encounter with Crawley Town was postponed due to a number of coronavirus cases in the Crawley squad.

Stevenage also enter the midweek fixture on the back of two consecutive defeats, and though frustrated by the defeats, Tisdale will be more concerned with the fact that Boro have scored one goal in their last five competitive games.

The visitors will be pessimistic about their chances on Wednesday having won just once on their travels in League One this season, although an away victory over Swindon would add some much-needed impetus to their season.

Team News

The hosts will be without the services of Dion Conroy, who was shown a straight red card in Swindon's most recent outing against Barrow.

Conroy's suspension could result in a place in the starting lineup for Romoney Crichlow.

After beginning the last two matches on the bench, Jonny Williams could come in for a starting berth on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Stevenage announced on Monday that they have signed Christy Pym on loan from Peterborough United until the end of the season, although with the loan effective from January, the goalkeeper will be ineligible for Wednesday's contest.

Scott Cuthbert came into the defence for Stevenage's last game, and the defender is expected to keep his place in the side for the trip to Swindon.

With the visitors struggling to find the net of late, they will be hoping that Elliott List can return to goalscoring form as the forward looks to add to his eight-goal tally this season.

Swindon Town possible starting lineup:
Wollacott; Hunt; Odimayo, Crichlow; Kesler, Gladwin, Williams, Payne, Iandolo; McKirdy, Simpson

Stevenage possible starting lineup:
Smith; Cochrane, Cuthbert, Prosser, Coker; Reeves, Lines, Taylor; List, Andrade, Norris

We say: Swindon Town 2-1 Stevenage

Although neither side are enjoying any sort of positive form, we think that Swindon will have too much quality for Stevenage, and that they will edge out the visitors on Wednesday.
