Bernardo Anor scored the only goal of the match as Columbus Crew beat Toronto 1-0 on Saturday.
It was the home side who started the match the stronger and Danny Koevermans might have opened the scoring after 11 minutes, but he fired wide.
Columbus passed up a fine opportunity to take the lead after 42 minutes when Milovan Mirosevic missed a penalty after Ty Harden had felled Olman Vargas in the area.
The away side did move ahead, however, after 56 minutes when Anor finished from close range.
Toronto pushed for the equaliser in the latter stages, but to no avail with the away side holding on for a vital three points.
