Sports Mole previews Sunday's Turkish Super Lig clash between Trabzonspor and Altay, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

The newly crowned Super Lig champions Trabzonspor will play their final home game of the season on Sunday when they welcome Altay to the Medical Park Stadium.

Meanwhile, the visitors know that they will be plying their trade in the second tier next season after collecting 34 points from 36 league games.

Match preview

The hosts have already wrapped up their first Super Lig title since 1984 after sweeping aside all challengers this season.

Trabzonspor have lost just two league games this term, while they have won 22 of their 36 league matches on their way to the championship.

However, rather than enter Sunday's contest in a celebratory mood, Trabzonspor will actually be despondent after they saw their hopes of a league and cup double come to an end in midweek.

Abdullah Avci's side took a 1-0 lead into the second leg of their Turkish Cup semi-final contest with Kayserispor, and as the tie drifted towards stoppage time, the Super Lig champions held a 3-2 advantage on aggregate, but two late Kayserispor goals crushed Trabzonspor's cup dreams.

Despite the midweek disappointment, the league winners have the chance to end the season with an unbeaten home league record if they achieve a positive result on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Altay's time in the Super Lig will be brief, with their relegation already confirmed despite losing just one of their last four matches.

The visitors may be heading to the second tier, but they have the chance to clinch back-to-back away victories after beating Hatayspor in their most recent away trip.

They also managed to pick up a point last weekend when they played host to Giresunspor, with Leandro Kappel helping the home side clinch a draw after cancelling out Umut Nayir's opener.

Kappel's strike ensured that Altay found the net at least once for the seventh time in their previous eight matches, which will be pleasing for a side that have scored 36 league goals this season - only Yeni Malatyaspor have scored fewer.

Altay have struggled against Trabzonspor of late, with the three meetings that have taken place in the last few years all resulting in Trabzonspor victories.

Team News

A muscle injury will prevent Stefano Denswil from featuring, while the hosts are also expected to be without the services of Bruno Peres and Anders Trondsen.

Trabzonspor rested a number of individuals for last weekend's league contest, and although they are now out of the cup, Avci may continue to give the fringe players an opportunity.

Djaniny added to his league tally in the 1-1 draw against Hatayspor, and the 31-year-old is set to lead the line for the hosts on Sunday.

As for the visitors, injury issues are expected to rule Ozgur Ozkaya and Deniz Kadah out of proceedings.

After holding Giresunspor to a draw last weekend, Altay could name an unchanged lineup for Sunday's contest.

Ahmed Yasser Rayan will be one of Altay's main goal threats, with the forward looking to add to his five-goal tally for the Super Lig season.

Trabzonspor possible starting lineup:
Cakir; Asan, Kaplan, Hugo, Koybasi; Akpinar, Ozdemir; Erdogan, Bakasetas, Kouassi; Djaniny

Altay possible starting lineup:
Topaloglu; Karayel, Thiam, Bjorkander, Karatas; Kappel, Poko, Thaciano, Yildirim, Rodriguez; Rayan

We say: Trabzonspor 2-1 Altay

Although the hosts will be in a downbeat mood following their Turkish Cup exit, we think that Trabzonspor will bounce back on Sunday to claim a victory that would see them end the campaign with an unbeaten home league record.
