Micky Adams was left frustrated after seeing his Tranmere Rovers side lose 3-2 to Dagenham & Redbridge.
Second-half goals from Ashley Hemmings and Billy Bingham saw Dagenham come from behind to take victory in Saturday's League Two encounter.
"Going forward we created chances but in the last two home games we would have had to score three times in each to get something out of it and you just can't put yourself in that position," Adams told Sky Sports News.
"We've made mistakes at the back and they've been punished. Defensively we were miles away from where we needed to be.
"It is frustrating because we did our homework and told the players what to expect on the training ground."
The result means that Tranmere remain in the relegation zone.
