How Turkey could line up against Switzerland

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Turkey could line up for Sunday's Group A clash with Switzerland.
Sports Mole

After back-to-back defeats to start their Group A campaign, Turkey come into Sunday's game against Switzerland without a point or a goal, potentially pushing head coach Senol Gunes into making some personnel changes.

As they require victory by a healthy margin - plus results in other groups to go their way - the Crescent-Stars are likely to shuffle their pack, after so far leaking five goals without troubling the scorers at the other end.

Though addressing concerns that their inexperience and lack of physical power - claims made by Gunes himself - will have to wait until after the Championships, bringing Kaan Ayhan of Serie A side Sassuolo into the midfield, alongside Irfan Kahveci, could allow others to shine in the final third.

Chief creative talent Hakan Calhanoglu has flickered but is yet to burst into life and will again be burdened with the task of creating from a nominal left-sided position, from which he can roam more freely given the circumstances.

Having been frustrated in front of goal so far, Ligue 1 winner Burak Yilmaz should again lead the line up front, with support from Calhanoglu and Yusuf Yazici.

Brentford's Halil Dervisoglu remains one of several relatively raw options for Gunes on the bench, along with 20-year-old Feyenoord starlet Orkun Kokcu.

Out wide, meanwhile, Roma winger Cengiz Under will compete with Kenan Karaman for a berth on the right, still hoping to belatedly recapture his best form after a fruitless spell on loan in the Premier League last term and a failure to make any impact on the Euros so far.

Turkey possible starting lineup: Cakir; Celik, Demiral, Soyuncu, Muldur; Ayhan, Tufan, Calhanoglu, Under; Yazici; Yilmaz
