Turkey have secured their place in the knockout stage of the Under-20 World Cup with a 2-1 win over Australia this evening.
Turkey had the better of the play in the opening minutes, but Aykut Ozer was soon called into action in the Turkish goal, with Adam Taggart looking for an early goal for Australia.
The Socceroos claimed the lead at the start of the second half, as captain Jackson Irvine found Blackburn Rovers midfielder James MacLaren, who tapped in from close range.
The lead was short-lived for Australia, as Turkey won a corner at the other end within a minute of falling behind, and Hakan Calhanoglu headed the ball in from the set piece.
Both sides pushed hard for a winner as full time approached, and it was host nation that managed to clinch the game as Okay Yokuslu found the back of the net following a free kick with just three minutes left to play.
The result means that Turkey finish second in the group, while Australia are knocked out of the competition, having failed to win a match.
