Ukraine have been forced to settle for a place in the World Cup playoff draw, despite running out 8-0 winners over San Marino on Tuesday evening.
England's 2-0 victory over Poland means that the Eastern Europeans could only muster a second-place finish in Group H.
Marko Devic fired a hat-trick, as Yevhen Seleznyov added a brace of his own. Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Bezus also struck in the second half as Ukraine made their dominance count with a hammering of the European minnows.
Mykhaylo Fomenko's side were 3-0 up inside 20 minutes as Seleznyov scored twice either side of Devic's first, before the Ukrainians ran riot with three goals in eight second-half minutes.
Yarmolenko grabbed one in between Devic's second and third of the evening before Bezus struck just after the hour mark. Vitaliy Vasyl'ovych Mandzyuk added a late eighth.
Ukraine will learn their fate when the playoff draw is made on October 21.
