Villarreal boss Marcelino has admitted that his side did not do enough to take all three points from their trip to Almeria on Sunday.
Both teams finished with 10 men in the goalless draw, with the result dropping Villarreal seven points off fourth-placed Atletico Madrid in the La Liga table.
"I think the outcome was fair although both teams had chances to have won it," Marcelino told reporters.
"It was a tough, demanding game between two sides that wanted to win and it was quite hot out there for the players. The pitch was also slow so that meant there was more physical contact than normal.
"I'm satisfied with the work and effort of my players but we had a clear advantage when they had a man sent off, so I admit I'm a little bit disappointed that we missed the chance to make our numerical superiority count."
Villarreal have won 14 of their 27 league games this season, but just four of those victories have come on the road.
