Marko Vejinovic scored twice from the penalty spot on his way to a hat-trick as Vitesse cruised to a 6-1 win over ADO Den Haag in the Eredivisie this evening,
The hosts needed just five minutes to open the scoring, with a quick break from Valeri Kazaishvili setting up Kelvin Leerdam for a simple tap-in from close range.
The midfielder added his second of the night less than 10 minutes later, slicing the ball in from just a couple of yards out from the right-hand side of the box to double Vitesse's advantage.
Den Haag gave themselves some hope with just over 20 minutes played as Michiel Kramer pulled one back against the run of play, but Vitesse soon restored the two-goal cushion when Timothy Derijck headed the ball into his own net while trying to make a clearance.
Things got worse for the visitors before the break as Vitesse were awarded a free kick, which Vejinovic curled in from 25 yards out.
The winger was on the scoresheet again just two minutes later when a Rochdi Achenteh cross was handled in the area, allowing Vejinovic to make it five before the break from the spot.
Kazaishvili had a chance to extend the hosts' lead further early in the second half, but Martin Hansen made the save for the visitors.
The keeper could do little to stop Vejinovic completing his hat-trick shortly after the hour mark though, as Kevin Jansen tripped Abiola Dauda in the box, allowing the midfielder to slot in another penalty.
Den Haag tried to finish strongly, but Wallace cleared the ball off the line to deny Ronald Alberg in the final 10 minutes.
The result moves Vitesse up to ninth in the table, while Den Haag remain 15th.
