Milot Rashica cancelled out Oussama Tannane's opener as Vitesse fought back to hold Heracles to a 1-1 draw this afternoon.
Heracles carried most of the threat in a cagey first half, but they were denied an early goal when Eloy Room made a fine save from Mike te Wierik's powerful strike.
Despite being pegged back for long spells before the interval, Vitesse could have taken a lead into the break had Kevin Diks not headed straight at Bram Castro from an unmarked position in the box.
Vitesse made a bright start to the second half and the visitors were close to an opening when Rashica found space before delaying a shot which took a crucial deflection on the way out.
Tannane handed the lead to Heracles with a superb effort from outside the box to leave Room helpless as Vitesse paid the price for not putting pressure on the forward.
Vitesse were level just 10 minutes later as Valeri Qazaishvili picked out Rashica, who found the bottom corner with a fine finish to silence the home fans.
The visitors could have snatched the victory in the final minute when Kelvin Leerdam was gifted space to meet a corner, but he could only shoot wide as both sides settled for a point.
