Walsall have booked their place in the final of the Football League Trophy after a 0-0 draw with Preston North End saw them through 2-0 on aggregate.
In a fairly timid opening first half neither side looked likely to open the scoring, but Michael Cain's deflected effort was on target for Walsall shortly before the half-hour mark.
Anthony Forde was presented with a decent opportunity for Walsall after the break but his effort was well saved by PNE goalkeeper Thorsten Struckmann.
Paul Gallagher almost gave the Whites a fighting chance in the second half but his effort was well saved by Walsall goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell.
