Watford's Tommie Hoban has undergone ankle surgery in the US.
The young defender has been sidelined since February, but will begin rehabilitation back in Britain next week.
"After consultations with a host of top specialists around the world, it was agreed that surgery was the best option available to the home-grown player," read a statement on Watford's website.
"Everyone at the club wishes Tommie well in his recovery."
Hoban made his last appearance for the Hornets in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at Vicarage Road in February.
