John Eustace was twice on target as Watford beat Barnsley 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
It was the home side who came closest to opening the scoring after nine minutes, when Eustace struck a powerful shot from outside the box, but it drifted just wide of the target.
Alex Kacaniklic was next to go close for Watford after 13 minutes, but his strike was pushed away by Tykes keeper Luke Steele.
The home side continued to dominate play and they got their reward after 33 minutes when Eustace produced a cool finish inside the area.
Watford continued to dominate play in the early stages of the second period but Barnsley so nearly levelled after 56 minutes when Andy Gray found himself unmarked in the area, but his header drifted just wide.
Eustace added his second of the game after 68 minutes when he danced through the Barnsley defence before producing a cool finish under Steele.
Barnsley cut the score to 2-1 late on through Gray, but it was a case of too little too late as the home side held on for all the points.
Watford will look to continue their winning run when they travel to Nottingham Forest next Saturday, while Barnsley host Birmingham.
