West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Irvine has said that he was pleased with his side's performance following their 1-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Craig Gardner sealed the derby victory for West Brom after Villa's Kieran Richardson was sent off for a challenge on Stephane Sessegnon in the first half.
After the game, Irvine told the BBC Sport: "I felt as long as we played with composure and didn't try to hurry things we would do it.
"Everyone assumes it's easy against 10 men but it isn't. It was never a foregone conclusion.
"From my point of view it's a great goal. Gardner did well to finish it off. The players have been great for me."
A first victory in six games took West Brom up to 14th in the Premier League table.
