Huddersfield Town earn a vital 2-1 away win over West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns in order to strengthen their Premier League survival hopes.

Goals from Rajiv van La Parra and Steve Mounie handed Huddersfield Town only their third away win in the Premier League this season courtesy of a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns this afternoon.

David Wagner's men scored in quick succession in the second half to strengthen Town's growing survival hopes, while Craig Dawson's headed effort proved a mere consolation for the Baggies, who now find themselves in real danger of being relegated this term.

An industrious encounter began with the Baggies doing most of the forward pressing, but they were almost undone by a simple ball over the top, although Mounie could not bring the pass under control and test Ben Foster.

Both sides were devoid of quality in the final third for much of the first period, but Salomon Rondon might have changed that before the break, only to head a tame effort straight into the arms of a grateful Jonas Lossl.

Town responded with a promising chance of their own just moments later, when Florent Hadergjonaj collected a pass from Van La Parra before testing Foster with a thunderous effort from range.

The half's best opportunity was to fall for James McClean, though, when the winger reacted smartly to a cross from Matt Phillips, leaving his clipped effort to flick the crossbar with Lossl struggling in the away goal.

The contest was really brought to life just two minutes after the break when Huddersfield grabbed the lead, Collin Quaner using Hadergjonaj's overlapping run to slip a ball into the middle for Van La Parra, who turned a miscued effort in beyond Foster to make it 1-0.

Some impressive pressing almost paid dividends for Town not too long after the opener, when possession broke to Danny Williams who saw his effort whistle just wide of the far post with Foster scrambling.

Wagner's side were full of energy and that saw them win the ball back from Grzegorz Krychowiak before slipping possession into Alex Pritchard inside the Baggies' half. The midfielder then produced a wonderful through-ball for Mounie, who collected calmly to add a second with an adroit finish past Foster.

West Brom struggled to create in the final third, but they were dealt a lifeline when Lossl failed to deal with Chris Brunt's corner, allowing Dawson to steam in and head home to setup a tense final 25 minutes in the Midlands.

Dawson might have returned to force a vital leveller late on as he again looked to pounce on some indecision from Lossl, only to see his header from a corner whistle over the frame of the goal.

The victory keeps the Terriers outside of the relegation zone on 30 points with 10 crucial games to play, while the Baggies stay rooted to the bottom of the standings and face a seven-point gap from safety, which could grow even larger before the weekend is out.
