Simon Cox hopes for regular football

Simon Cox concedes that he may have to look elsewhere for regular football as he bids to make Republic of Ireland's Euro 2012 squad.

West Bromwich Albion striker Simon Cox has acknowledged that he may have to look for a move away from the club in order to play regular first-team football.

Cox, 24, has only featured six times in the Premier League this season, with five of them being from the bench.

Republic of Ireland's qualification for Euro 2012 has increased Cox's urge for more regular football as he tries to secure a place in Giovanni Trappatoni's squad.

"I'm never happy when I'm not playing," Cox told the Birmingham Mail. "I would like to play more and it might be something I have to look at in the Christmas period.

"I might have to look at what I do but it'll be a decision made then, not anytime soon. If that is to happen then it'll be a decision that suits everyone concerned. It's a decision that'll be made further down the line.

"I want to be in the best physical shape possible and in the best mental state to give myself the best chance of getting to the Euros. I will have to look at what the manager thinks, what he wants to do - we have the January window coming up and he might want to bring people in himself too.

"Maybe he might think the time is right for me to go somewhere else. Obviously there are still a few weeks to go but we will see how it all unfolds."

Cox has been at the Hawthorns since 2009, scoring ten goals in 50 league games for the club.
