Sam Allardyce: 'West Ham United deserved to beat Everton'

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce believes that his side deserved their victory after beating Everton on penalties in an FA Cup third-round replay.

Sam Allardyce has claimed that there was no doubt his West Ham United side deserved to progress following a thrilling penalty shootout triumph over Everton at Upton Park.

Hammers goalkeeper Adrian scored the winning penalty after the two sides were locked at 2-2 at the end of extra time, and Allardyce believes that the hosts did enough on a dramatic evening to book their spot in the next round.

"It was unbelievable," the West Ham boss told reporters. "The highs and lows in one particular game. It has been a long time since I experienced such highs and lows in one match. Such excitement. It was end to end from the first whistle - nothing like a Premier League game.

"Both teams went out and played and tried to win it. In the end we got what we deserved, there is no doubt about that.

"Unfortunately we missed too many chances, their goalkeeper made some fantastic saves. We had 23, 24 attempts. We missed and fluffed a few and had to rely on penalties in the end to win it."

West Ham will meet Bristol City in the fourth round after they secured a 2-0 win over Doncaster Rovers in their replay at Ashton Gate.
