Queens Park Rangers are still looking for their first win of the season after losing 2-1 to West Ham United this evening.

Goals from Matt Jarvis and Ricardo Vaz Te gave the Hammers a two-goal lead going into the break, a deficit that Mark Hughes's side could not recover from, despite a fine strike from Adel Taarabt putting them back in the game.

QPR were reduced to ten men with 15 minutes left, making their task even harder, and ultimately they were made to wait even longer to add to their two-point tally so far this season.

Was the result fair?

Over the whole course of the match, yes. The first half was shambolic from QPR's point of view and West Ham, despite not being in spectacular form themselves, were by far the better team. The introduction of Adel Taarabt and Samba Diakite galvanised the home side and they enjoyed the better of much of the second half but, overall, the Hammers deserved their win.

QPR's performance

Alarm bells will be ringing at Loftus Road. QPR have a much better side than their performance suggests, but whether it is just a matter of time before they gel is yet to be seen. Their first half performance was poor, but they got better in the second, which is one positive that Mark Hughes can take away with him.

West Ham's performance

Very professional from the Hammers. They got into a 2-0 lead without reaching top gear, and spent the second half defending that lead. It was only an unstoppable wonder goal that saw QPR come back into the match, but they dealt with the resulting revival expertly.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Mohamed Diame. This is a tough award to give as no player stood head and shoulders above the rest. It was a real team effort, and the likes of Kevin Nolan or Jussi Jaaskelainen are perhaps as worthy of the accolade as Diame. However, I've gone for the Senegalese midfielder as he bossed the centre of the field and was, at times, an immovable object.

Biggest gaffe

QPR's defending for the first goal has to take this one. The goal was calamitous to say the least, with Matt Jarvis ghosting in at the back post to head home when it looked as if he was aiming to knock it back across the face. Julio Cesar could also take this for his goalkeeping for West Ham's second, but I'll let him off as Vaz Te's effort took a deflection just in front of him.

Referee's performance

If you look at the statistics, you would think that it was a dirty game, but it wasn't particularly. Mark Clattenburg was very card-happy throughout, handing out yellows to eight different West Ham players. The big decision - Diakite's sending off - was a correct call, however, despite his lack of intent in the tackle that earned him his second yellow. By the laws of the game, Clattenburg didn't have much of a choice.

QPR will continue their quest for a first league win of the season at the Hawthorns as they face West Bromwich Albion.

West Ham:

West Ham, meanwhile, face a tricky home match against Arsenal next Saturday as they look to improve on their highest Premier League position for four years.
