Jarrod Bowen has broken a Premier League record after scoring for West Ham United in their 3-2 away defeat to Brentford on Saturday.

After Mohammed Kudus scored a spectacular volley to cancel out an 11th-minute opener from Bees striker Neal Maupay, Bowen netted his record-breaking strike to turn the game on its head just before the half-hour mark, tapping home from close range after Kudus hit the post.

Brentford fought back in the second half and restored parity in the 55th minute courtesy of an own goal from Konstantinos Mavropanos, before Nathan Collins completed the turnaround with a towering header 20 minutes from time.

Despite the defeat for West Ham, Bowen's goal has seen him become the first player in Premier League history to score in each of his team's first six away games in a single season.

The England international is also the first-ever West Ham player to score in six successive away games in all competitions.

Only Erling Haaland (11), Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min (both eight) have scored more Premier League goals than Bowen (seven) so far this season.

However, each of Bowen's last three Premier League away goals have all come in defeats for West Ham, who have slipped to 11th in the table following their loss at Brentford.

Manager David Moyes has taken some positives from his side's performance at the Gtech Community Stadium, but stated that defensive mistakes ultimately proved costly.

"We did quite well at times in the first half although I felt we'd given up too much territory with ten or 15 minutes to go until half-time, which allowed Brentford to grow back into the game more than I'd have liked," Moyes told whufc.com.

"Because we had the two up front I thought, the moment we gave it to those two, we might have a better chance of scoring and we should have done. But the other part of that is we should have defended better.

"If you don't concede any more then we win the game, but we did concede and I didn't like the goals we let in. They came from second phase set-pieces. The first part of them we'd dealt with and defended them, and then we didn't defend the second part.

"But we've come here too often and I hate the feeling that we're losing to Brentford every time. I've left pig-sick every time and I'm leaving again pig-sick."

West Ham will look to return to winning ways when they play host to Greek outfit Olympiacos in the Europa League group stage on Thursday. body check tags ::
