Reading have taken a 1-0 lead into half time of their Premier League match against Wigan at the DW Stadium courtesy of a Sean Morrison header.
The hosts came close to taking the lead in the 14th minute as Jean Beausejour's cross was met by Arouna Kone, but the Ivorian's powerful header went just wide.
Reading responded with two chances in quick succession, but on both occasions Adam Le Fondre nodded his effort just wide.
Kone had a great chance to break the deadlock just before the half-hour mark as he skipped onto a through-ball and past Adam Federici's dive, but Nicky Shorey was on hand to prevent him sliding it in to the open net.
Having played a big part in stopping a goal, Shorey was also instrumental in Reading's opener. The full-back sent a deep free kick into the box which was met by the head of Morrison, guiding it into the top corner to make it 1-0.
Wigan almost responded immediately as Jordi Gomez danced his way into the box but, with only Federici to beat, he blazed his shot over the bar.
