Wigan Athletic have taken a 2-0 lead into half time in their Championship game against Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.
The home side were attacking from the start, resulting in early chances for Grant Holt and James McArthur, but both saw their shots blocked.
However, the FA Cup holders' persistence paid off just 11 minutes in when Matt Mills committed a handball offence inside the penalty area, giving Wigan a spot kick, which was well struck by Ben Watson to put his team ahead.
Nick Powell doubled Wigan's lead midway through the first half, powering the ball in from the middle of the box just seconds after Chris McCann had seen his effort stopped.
Bolton started to see more of the ball as the game progressed and managed to slow down their hosts, but created few chances of their own in the opening half.
The visitors' best chance of the half fell to Joe Mason just short of the half-hour mark, but his header from a Kevin McNaughton cross was well saved by Scott Carson.
