Arsenal are said to be preparing a bid for Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy.
The 22-year-old has been one of the Latics' most consistent performers this season and has started all 21 of the club's Premier League matches.
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez recently admitted that he expects McCarthy to eventually leave the DW Stadium for a bigger club.
According to The Mirror, Arsenal are ready to test the Lancashire outfit's resolve this month by offering £8m for the player.
McCarthy, who has been capped nine times by the Republic of Ireland at senior international level, has three-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract.
